This Week in WAC, April 10, 2006

This week…

We’ve got three workshops: one with the Department Theatre, one with Faculty and TA development, and then our workshop for International GTAs teaching writing. They all promise to be exciting. We’ll report on each of them by next week. Molly, Shannon and I will also post some thoughts on the class presentations we’ve done for Comparative Studies, Greek, and Political Science, respectively. This week…

We’ll be making presentations to several classes. Molly already made a presentation on writing strategies to undergraduates in a Comparitive Studies 367 class. Shannon will be making an appearance soon at a Greek 367 class, and I’ll be discussing theses and research strategies for longer research papers for two political science classes tomorrow. We’re also making some final preparations for three workshops next week. (more…)

This Week in WAC, March 29th, 2006

This week…

We’re hitting the ground running for Spring Quarter–I’ll be making presentations to a few political science classes next week, and then give a brief paper at Otterbein’s Scholarship on Teaching and Learning Conference. The week after that, we have three workshops in a row: a workshop on responding to student writing for GTAs in the Theatre Department, a workshop for FTAD, and then our workshop for IGTAs teaching writing. This week…

We’re wrapping up our work for Winter quarter and preparing for spring. Over break, I will be heading to Chicago for the annual Convention of the Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC). I’m looking forward to attending several WAC sessions to hear about the work people are doing at other universities. I will report when I get back. (more…)

This week…

We hosted a group of 7 faculty from Soka University in Japan, giving them a presentation about what we do here in WAC. They came with great questions about developing programs and generally about how instructors in various disciplines can incorporate writing into their courses. They very graciously gave us several gifts, including a collection of University Addresses by their founder, Daisaku Ikeda, A New Humanism. I’ve taken a look at some of the essays–I’d like to write about a few at some point in honor of their visit, perhaps next week. (more…)
