Writing Across the Curriculum Can Help!
Teaching a writing class for the first time? Nervous about evaluating and responding to student writing?
Frustrated with how your students respond to your prompts? Overwhelmed with loads of papers to comment on?
Looking to develop new assignments? Tired of the same old prompts?
Do you want to find new ways to use writing as a tool for learning?
The Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) team can help you tackle these issues and more.
We offer a number of services to help you :
Individual Consultations: In person or over email, we can discuss and address any problems you are having this quarter. Common consultations include reworking an old assignment, discussing new methods to use class time to teach writing creatively and effectively, and managing time efficiently when responding to student writing.
Classroom Presentations: Consider letting a WAC consultant get your students jump-started on their research papers. Or, let us lead a peer group workshop. You’ll get a break from teaching and get to see an alternative way to do peer response or brainstorm for a final assignment.
Departmental Workshops: Talk to your department course coordinators to have us schedule a workshop for GTAs, faculty, and instructors in your department. We can facilitate a hands-on workshop on any number of topics, including developing writing assignments, teaching students citation and research ethics, responding to and evaluating student writing.
This quarter, we will be sponsoring several special workshops on a variety of exciting issues:
- Writing Across Borders: Helping International Students to Write; October 12th, 3:30-4:45, Location TBA
- Beyond Wikipedia: Online Collaborative Writing Tools; November 2nd, 3:30-4:45, Location TBA
- There’s More than One Way to Skin a Cat: Evaluating Student Writing; November 16th, 3:30-4:45, Location TBA
We’ll keep you posted throughout the year on our programming. Â In the meantime, let us know how we can help you:
